Prison Island, better known as Changuu, is an uninhabited island just off the coast of Stone Town. The name Prison Island came from the first plans to build a prison 1860s but the island was actually used as a place that served as a quarantine station for people with malaria or other illnesses.
Today, Prison Island is best known for its oldest inhabitants, the Aldabra tortoises. The Aldabra Turtles living on the island are the second largest turtles in the world.
